Chasable FAQ

What’s a chub?

A chub is any gay or bisexual man who’s, well, chubby. Some bigger gay men are sensitive about their weight and might bristle at being called a chub, but for most, it’s an easy way to identify their body type and find guys who like it (called “chasers”). Chubs come in all shapes and sizes, from guys who are just a little thick to husky to fat to morbidly obese men—who are sometimes called superchubs. There’s no one “right” type of chub and for every kind of chub there are literally thousands of men who think that type is the hottest thing ever.

What’s a chaser?

Chasers are gay or bi guys who find chubs attractive. Chasers can be any body type—from skinny to muscular to somewhat pudgy themselves. Whenever a chubby guy is also a chaser, he’s typically called a chub for chub (or chub4chub in internet speak). Not every chaser likes the same kind of guy—some prefer smooth chubs, some prefer older chubs, etc.—but they are united in their desire to date, have sex with and marry fat men. If you think chubby guys are hot, congratulations, you’re a chaser!

What’s a chub4chub?

A chub4chub is a chubby gay or bi man who is also sexually attracted to other chubby men. Basically he’s a chaser, but he happens to be chunky himself.

What’s a chubby bear?

A chubby bear is a type of chub who is not just fat but also hairy. Some chasers prefer chubby bears and some prefer smoother chubs (and some like both!)

What’s a bear?

The term “bear” has gone mainstream as of late and its definition has certainly broadened! Today, a bear is any gay or bi man who is hairy (from a little hair to full-on gorilla) and not skinny. Bears can range from beefy (usually called a “muscle bear”) to thick with a belly (a typical “bear”) to fat (a “chubby bear”). A younger, smaller bear is oftentimes called a “cub”.

Isn’t it kind of weird that chasers are attracted to fat men?

Funny how that sounds like what most straight people said about gay people not too long ago! There is nothing wrong with a guy who prefers his men chunky, just like there’s nothing wrong with a guy who likes skinny men, tall men or older men. No, they weren’t abused as children. No, it’s not something they choose. No, they wouldn’t be happier dating someone they aren’t attracted to. Hmmm, interesting how defending guys who like chubby men sounds a lot like defending gay people in general ;) Take a note, mainstream gays!

But what’s sexy about fat guys?

What isn’t sexy about fat guys?!?!? But seriously, liking thick, chunky or just plain fat men is a taste—just as being sexually attracted to twinky or muscle guys is a taste. You either think fat men are hot or you don’t. If you don’t like big men and aren’t a big man yourself, then this site isn’t for you. If you do think chubby guys are sexy or you yourself are a man of the bigger variety, then please make yourself at home! Also, fat guys cuddle better. We’re just putting that out there ;)

But chubs should find someone who loves them for them, not because they’re fat!

That’s assuming that someone can’t love both! For a point of comparison, we’ve heard the same thing from gay friends who are “mainstream attractive” (e.g. washboard abs, chiseled face). Every date they’re on, they’re afraid the guy just likes their body and their looks and doesn’t care about them as people. It’s a legitimate fear for anyone, but not all guys who like someone’s body are disinterested in their mind. The ideal is a guy who loves BOTH!

So do chubs like being chubby?

It’s different for every guy. Some chubs have loved the way they looked all their lives. Some have fought long and hard to learn to love their bodies. Some are still struggling. Our hope is that someday every guy, regardless of his size or looks, can come to think of himself as sexy, attractive and worthy of love. Because ALL of us are.

So are guys on here looking for relationships? Friends? Sex?

Honestly, a little bit of everything. Each member has his own objectives. We know some are laser focused on finding a partner or husband they can grow old with. We also know some are seeking out friends and want to build their belonging in the community. And yet others are really only interested in hooking up and sex. Some want all of the above. The best way to find out is to use the search and filter criteria, read profiles carefully and when in doubt, ask!

OK, I’ll admit it, I’m a chaser. But can’t I just hide this part of me?

Sure, if you want to live a lonely life with little sexual and romantic fulfillment. Being a chaser is like being gay—we were born that way and no conscious effort or reparative therapy can change that. Can a gay man try to marry a woman? Sure. Will he be truly happy? Our bet is no. It’s the same with chasers and chubs.

So is Chasable a social network like Facebook?

It is and it isn’t. Chasable is a new concept for gay micro-communities—a hybrid social media and dating/personals site. That means you’ll see lots of features you’re used to seeing on a social network like Facebook or Twitter (such as status updates, newsfeeds and following/follower relationships), but you’ll also see many features you might normally see on a dating/personals site (such as profiles with detailed information about your relationship and sexual interests, an easily searchable database and the ability to filter your network by your type).

How is Chasable different from other dating and personals sites?

Because we blend two different models—social media and dating/personals—we offer a more social approach to dating that suits gay micro-communities. When you're part of a sub-community like chubs and chasers are, your interests straddle two wants: To be a part of this community and to find individual relationships within it. The first want is best addressed with a more social approach and the second with a more traditional personals approach. Our goal is to blend both types of websites so seamlessly that those two aims blend seamlessly as well—strengthening the community bond while also helping members find a date or new friend.
